A Serendipitous Opportunity

Do you ever wonder at the timing of things that happen in your life? Have you ever had an opportunity that seemed to come at exactly the right time?

That’s how I feel about StickerYou‘s Make it Better small business contest.

As Café D’Amour approaches its 5th anniversary I look around at this beautiful little shop that I love so much and wish there was more I could do for it.

It’s hard on your own to figure out the best way to make a big impact with little time and limited resources (the reality of small-business). If I can only do one thing to improve Café D’Amour what would be best? Where should I focus? Where do I start?

With these thoughts swimming around in the back of my mind I opened my inbox to see an email waiting for me. “StickerYou wants to help a small business with a location makeover, product labels, decals, and media exposure – all valued at $10,000”

StickerYou, I want that too!

If we win this contest it will mean that Café D’Amour can enter into its next year of business (our FIFTH anniversary is January 3rd!) looking and feeling all shiny and new. Imagine our front wall of windows filled with beautiful graphics! Imagine the crisp lines and clear writing of new menu boards! Imagine a space that reflects all the love it holds within! (Is that cheesy? – I’m sorry, I can’t help it, I love this place so much)

Being involved with StickerYou’s contest so far has made me more aware of how much potential there is in our little 650 square foot space, and that’s been a gift in and of itself.

Pamela Painted a Pretty Portrait

DSCN2083

At the end of last year local Riverview artist Pamela Rayner Moore asked me and Sharla to sit for her Portrait Group. This is Pamela’s final result.

Now, I’m going to share a little secret with you here. I’ve always wanted someone to do a painting of me. Always. It has always been on my list of life-events I hoped to experience.

My grandmother was painted by many people throughout her life. She was this gorgeous, charming woman, and it made absolute sense to me that someone would want to try to capture her essence. In my house we have these gorgeous paintings of my grandmother that capture her beauty from the age of 16 to the age of 75.

Throughout my life I would admire these portraits and wish that one day I too could be worthy of being captured on canvas. Thank you Pamela for helping me make one of my dreams into reality.

Winnipeg’s Best Coffee

Last week CBC Information Radio launched a contest to find WINNIPEG’S BEST COFFEE.

CBC listeners took to Facebook to nominate their faves, and WE were among them!! We were awed. Gobsmacked. Thrilled that not only did we come to mind when coffee is mentioned, but that people then took the time to submit our name. We were happy just to be included among the 25 independent shops that made the first list.

But it didn’t end there. The list was shortened to 16 for round 2, and Cafe D’Amour was still hanging around! CBC then had listeners vote, again, to narrow the list further. There were some pretty big names on there. Stella’s, Black Pearl, Espresso Junction, Ray & Jerry’s!

Voting lasted over the weekend, and the top 5 were announced on Monday!

You can imagine our excitement when at 7:15 Monday morning we see OUR NAME listed in the TOP 5!

As a result of being in the final five I have my first ever radio interview tomorrow morning, which will air on CBC information radio Thursday morning (I’ll try not to let my nerves get the better of me).  And on Friday CBC will crown the BEST COFFEE IN WINNIPEG!

Honestly, it doesn’t matter what happens after this point. We are still only  in our first 2 years of business and knowing that our hard work is being recognized by our customers, and by the community at large, is a great little motivator to keep doing what we’ve been doing.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support. If you keep coming by we will keep putting love in every cup…
